Today marks the curtain call of a Madison County landmark: the building most famously known as The Maverick Club.
In the 80’s and early 90’s, when most Kentucky Counties miles around were still dry, The Maverick was the place to not only get a drink, but to kick up your heels and dance.
The club was extremely popular, as was the music, with acts such as The Josh Logan band, who performed for many years at the location.
The Maverick Club hosted some of the biggest names in the country music industry over its years of operation under Monroe Brock.
With the likes of George Jones, Johnny Paycheck, David Allen Coe, Vern Gosdin taking to the stage, if they were a country star, chances are they performed at the Maverick.
The hotspot was also a hangout of some of the best world class pool players, including Clyde Childers, Bobby Johnson, Nick Varner, and national champion Earl Strickland, among many others.
