Kimberly Perry and husband Johnny Costello put on an electric show Friday night at The Vine in Madison County. The young lady from Greeneville, Tennessee kept thanking Kentucky throughout the show for being so kind to The Band Perry.
Originally a country band discovered by Major Bob of Garth Brooks fame, The Band Perry has drifted away from its country roots and appears to be a Rock band today. Their music was tight and the lyrics bold.
The show opened with Better Dig Two and was followed by You Lie. Next, Kimberly paid tribute to Dolly with I Will Always Love You. She told the story that Dolly got her cell number from someone and called her before The Band Perry released their second album entitled Pioneer. Kimberly described that she was scared to release this album, and Dolly consoled and encouraged her on the phone. Kimberly followed up with her latest tribute to her husband called Psychological. Johnny played the mandolin and sang backup.
Several other songs like Chainsaw, Beer Never Broke My Heart, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely, I’m a Keeper, and Kimberly’s favorite Queen song Fat Bottomed Girls were crowd favorites. As for the sold-out crowd, they seemed to enjoy the new direction that The Band Perry has taken, and it was a beautiful evening in the Bluegrass.
The open two acts were Madison County’s own McKinleigh Anglin and Avery Glenn Crabtree who hails from eastern Kentucky. McKinleigh was joined on stage by Derek Isaacs and Jake Vanover, and she is a bright shining light in Madison County. Avery seemed to enjoy his role as an opener for The Band Perry.
