Madison County voters will now have an additional decision to make on their May ballots. That is to vote the entirety of Madison County wet. Today, February 10, 2023 Madison County Clerk Kenny Barger certified enough valid signatures on a recently submitted petition to get the matter before the voters.
The purpose of the petition was to demonstrate enough supporters for the initiative, and to avoid the cost of a separate vote by getting the vote included on the already slated May primary. The petition succeeded on both fronts.
Proponents of the petition and the now upcoming vote, cite many pluses for the passage of the measure, including more investments in the county’s entertainment industry and nicer local and unique destinations. The fact Kroger passed on locating in Berea recently citing the inability to sell package wines and beers was much publicized, and galvanized a lot of support from the Countys southern region.
Wesley Browne, local attorney and Apollo’s pizza partner received the official news from Clerk Barger today. It stated after examining the petition they have certified it contains, at least, the minimum 7620 valid signatures, which is 25% of the votes cast in 2022 General Election. This is enough to validate the petition to be on the May 2023 Primary Election ballot.
The primary election will be Tuesday May 16, 2023.
