Madison Central was on lockdown for around an hour this morning as an unidentified man with a gun was seen near the school premises in the area of the railroad tracks. Road blocks by the Richmond Police and Fire Department were set up in the area while the scene was still active.
The suspect was at gunpoint from police with a gun case reportedly in his hand and was refusing to comply with officers, and seen talking to someone on his cell phone.
The man, identified as 39-year-old James Medder was eventually taken into police custody around 12:15 p.m.
According to Richmond Police, the incident began as a domestic situation where the man took a gun and was walking in the vicinity of the area with the gun. The high school went on lockdown as a precautionary measure until the man was taken into custody. James Medder is charged with 4th Degree Domestic Assault, 2nd Degree Disorderly Conduct, and 1st Degree Fleeing or Evading Police. At press time, he has been newly booked and a mugshot is not available.
