Today at Madison Southern High school in Berea, students were adding the finishing touches to their projects as a result of their time participating in the Science Technology, Engineering and Math summer camps. AmeriCorps volunteers, including recent graduates, helped the students make Rube Goldberg machines this week.
The machines can be best described as complicated ways to complete a simple task, such as a ball rolling down a track, hitting dominoes, and then making a confetti explosion as the kids did the past three days.
In interviews with WBONtv, the students and volunteers explained that this is preparing them both for real life applications of physics and math.
