Another arrest on a Madison County School property occurred this Thursday morning resulting in a statement from Glenn Marshall Elementary School located on the Robert R. Martin Bypass in Richmond. Glenn Marshall Principal, Jill Whitaker, issued this statement on social media this morning in regards to the incident:
The school confirms that just before 7a.m. this Thursday morning, March 9, 2023, Richmond Police were made aware of a potential threat to the school from a juvenile who is not enrolled at Glenn Marshall. The juvenile was taken into custody immediately. RPD units remain on the school campus out of an abundance of caution today.
Richmond Police took the juvenile into custody and according to RPD, the juvenile told officers they intended to harm individuals at the school. Officers immediately took the juvenile into custody and are currently conducting an investigation.
Richmond Police say the juvenile did not possess any firearms but was in possession of a large knife and another instrument that could be used as a weapon.
To ensure the safety of all individuals at the school, the police department assigned extra officers to remain on campus throughout the day.
There is no initial indication that the juvenile conspired with anyone, and all evidence indicates they acted alone.
In a press conference earlier today, Richmond Police Chief Rodney Richardson said the juvenile remains in police custody and that this is an ongoing investigation.
Principal Jill Whitaker further thanked Richmond Police for their swift response to defuse the situation peacefully and without further incident.
