Richmond Parks & Recreation will be cancelling or delaying the following events due to the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 in the state of Kentucky. Per the guidelines issued by the federal and state agencies, certain precautions will be taken in order to mitigate the spread and effects of COVID-19 on the community and at risk populations.
The following events have been modified as a result of safety percautions:
• Easter Eggstravaganza – Cancelled
• Yoga in the Park – Cancelled
• Opening of Adventure Falls – Delayed Opening. TBD
• Story Nature Walk – Modifications on Presentation
• Adult Softball – Registration deadline is extended. Decision on season delay TBD.
Additionally, the Parks and Recreation Department are taking the below precautions in an effort to minimize the spread of the virus:
• Teen Center – Closed Until Further Notice
• All City Playgrounds – Closed Until Further Notice
• Park Bathrooms – Irvine McDowell, Camp Catalpa, & Million Park (Stratford Dr) will have Port-O-Pots available. Lake Reba will have the soccer restrooms and the boat dock restrooms opened. All other park restrooms will be closed. Open bathhouses will be cleaned and sanitized frequently throughout the day.
• Main Park Office – Closed to outside visitors/the public until further notice.
The following parks will remain open, with some modifications:
• Lake Reba Walking Trail, Dog Park, and Fishing area will remain open. Limited restroom facilities. Please stay off of the ball fields for group practices or if fields are wet.
• Camp Catalpa- Walking Trail, Disc Golf, and Fishing area is open.
• Million Park- Dog Park and walking trail are open.
• Duncannon Walking Trail – Open
• Irvine McDowell Field Area is open.
Plans are currently being made to partner with the food services for Madison County Schools and Street Eatz to help provide a location for distribution and to give Easter treats as well. Richmond Parks & Rec will be providing more information over the coming days about steps they are taking to minimize the social isolation in the community while also helping to maintain social distancing.
