On February 6, 2023, around 9:25 PM, Richmond Police responded to the 1100 Block of Richmond Green Drive in reference to a suspected overdose fatality. According to RPD, officers found a 48-year-old male victim deceased from a suspected overdose.
During the investigation, officers recovered evidence that a neighbor possibly provided the substance to the victim, which led to his death. Police made contact with Demetrius Marshall (36) of Richmond and placed him under arrest for an outstanding arrest warrant. Mr. Marshal had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on previous charges:
Trafficking in a controlled substance (carfentanil or fentanyl)
Trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree (methamphetamine)
Trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree (opiates)
Trafficking in a controlled substance 3rd degree
Possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree
Possession of drug paraphernalia
A search warrant was executed at Mr. Marshall’s residence, and the following items were seized in and around his residence:
• Various items of paraphernalia (scales, baggies, and calibration weights)
• Approximately 117 grams of marijuana
• Approximately 500 grams of suspected methamphetamine
• Approximately 74 grams of suspected fentanyl
• 8 xanax tablets, 2.5 suboxone tablets, and 1 clonazepam tablet
• $1186 in currency
Following the investigation, Demetrius Marshal was charged with the following:
Trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree (methamphetamine)
Trafficking in a controlled substance (carfentanil or fentanyl)
Trafficking in marijuana
Trafficking in a controlled substance 2nd degree
Possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Manslaughter 2nd degree
Tampering with physical evidence Mr. Marshal was lodged at the Madison County Detention Center.
