With the holidays fast approaching, WBON-TV went to the Richmond Fire Department’s training center to get an up close and personal look at how deep-frying a turkey could go terribly wrong.
Public information officer for the RFD Corey Lewis explained the main things that need to be taken into account if you plan on dropping a bird in boiling oil for Thanksgiving. He mentioned that maintaining the temperature with a thermometer, taking care to ensure that the oil does not get too hot, thawing the turkey out previously, and not deep-frying on a deck are just some things to remember.
Lewis also promised that the fire department would be on-hand all throughout the holiday season, when cooking fires result in the most calls they get all year round.
