Richmond government officials and citizens were put behind bars today for the Hope’s Wings Domestic Violence annual Jail N’ Bail fundraiser.
Executive Director of Hope’s Wings Domestic Violence Program Jennifer Lainhart explained how the Jail N’ Bail benefits individuals who have been victims of domestic assault.
“All of the funds go right back into our community shelter”, says Lainhart. “So, they stay 100% here in Madison County”.
Mayor Robert Blythe and City Commissioners Ed McDaniel and Mike Brewer were just a few of the many people who were in attendance to support a good cause.
There was also a special appearance from Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who came from Frankfort to show his support for the event.
After the officials have been “locked up”, citizens then donate money to pay for the voluntary jail birds’ bails. The money raised goes entirely to the Hope’s Wings Domestic Violence emergency shelter, which has housed over seven hundred women and children.
The current shelter needs more space and the money raised at this year’s Jail N’ Bail will go to adding extra bedrooms and a learning center to the shelter. Watch the video to get all the details and see how this year’s event went!
