Hope’s Wings to Host Virtual Fishing Tourney to Gain Funds After Annual Event Cancellation

Although they had to cancel their biggest event, an ‘Evening for Hope’ due to the pandemic this year, domestic violence shelter Hope’s Wings has had to get creative to keep the non profit operating as normal. Director Jennifer Lainhart tells WBONtv they are hosting a virtual fishing tournament next month.

Explained to Wbontv in the interview, Director Jennifer Lainhart detailed the event, called “Fish On”. She adds that the fundraiser is similar to a previous event, but it had not generated much money for the nonprofit organization in the past.

This year, Lainhart hopes this will change, in order to try and regain around $25,000, which would have been raised from the shelter’s biggest annual event. For “Fish On”, running online and on Facebook the weekend of July 16th through the 18th, participants post picture of their catch, with the length and time the fish was caught.

She adds that those who register before July 3rd will receive a free T-shirt. You can sign up on Facebook at the event page or on the site.

Also in the video interview, Lainhart explains the new renovations that have taken place during the lull of the pandemic, and excitedly shows off a new computer lab and learning area, as well as a sparkling new kitchen for the women and children that live and seek sanctuary there.
