Update to stabbing from press release from the Berea Police Department:
Last night, at around 9:30pm officers responded to an assault call in the 100 block of Dinsmore Street in Berea.
When they arrived, one of the subjects involved had been stabbed and had severe injuries. He was transported to the University of Kentucky hospital by Madison County EMS.
The other subject was located at the scene and was taken into custody by officers. The victim, who is not yet identified, died around 2:00am at the hospital. According to Lieutenant Jake Reed of the Berea Police Department, the two knew one another and were fighting over a former spouse of one of the men. The arrest citation notes that the suspect claimed the stabbing was in self defense, as the victim had started the altercation.
Officers arrested 40 year old Ricky Arvin of Berea KY and initially charged him with Assault 1st Degree, however following the fatal nature of the stabbing, he will now be facing a murder charge. The investigation is still ongoing, and we will update with more information when it becomes available.
