Madison county was handed a huge award Monday at the legislative luncheon on EKU’s campus, for contributing to a huge $14.5 billion in revenue to the area. The Economic Engine award, from the Kentucky Travel Industry Association, was given to Madison County due to its economic contribution to the overall region. The association recognized the county as bringing a significant amount of tourism related revenue, the third highest moneymaker in the commonwealth, through the area.
Director of Richmond Tourism Lori Murphy-Tatum says this was quite a big deal for both Berea and Richmond, who accepted the award together.
Also at the luncheon, lawmakers gave an update from Frankfort, including the mention of House bill 166 which was brought before committees Monday to look at the options for legalizing the medicinal use of marijuana in Kentucky.
