Kentucky State Police post 8 Morehead has release more details in that fatal wreck on the Mountain Parkway Tuesday in Wolfe County.
State Police received a call from Wolfe County Dispatch around 3:50 p.m. requesting assistance with a fatal collision on the Bert T Combs Mountain Parkway near the 47-mile marker.
Investigators determined Robby Burchett, 58 of Flat Gap Kentucky, was traveling East bound on the mountain parkway in aTown and Country mini-van, when he crossed the center line into the path of a Hyundai Elantra operated by Russell Sowers, 32 of Summerfield Florida.
Mr. Burchett was taken to St. Claire Regional Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. His passenger, Robbin Burchett, 56 of Paintsville Kentucky, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Wolfe County Coroner Frank Porter.
Russell Sowers along with his 3 passengers were taken to Morgan County ARH in West Liberty. Mr. Sowers sustained serious injuries and is currently listed in critical condition. His passenger Katelyn Harmon, 27 of Salyersville Kentucky, was also pronounced deceased at the scene. Two minor children were also passengers in the car. The youngest a 2 year old toddler sustained minor injuries and is listed as stable. However, a 9 year old female sustained serious injuries and is currently listed in critical condition.
KSP was assisted on scene by Wolfe County Sheriff’s Department, Cross Medical EMS, Wolfe county Fire Department, Hazel Green Fire Department, Wolfe County Coroner’s Office and other KSP personnel. The collision remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by Trooper Jordan Barnett.
