Man charged with 17 Counts of Wanton Endangerment After Allegedly Firing Rifle

On Monday night, deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39 year-old Roger Dale Williams following reported shots fired. The arrest occurred near Drew Lane, after deputies were dispatched to investigate a complaint of an out-of-control subject firing a gun out of the window of his home.

Upon deputies’ arrival at the scene, family members met the officers in the driveway advising Williams had went back inside the residence to rearm himself with a handgun. When the subject heard police sirens approaching the residence, he reportedly walked out of the residence unarmed and was detained without incident. An investigation was conducted where it was learned that the suspect had allegedly become mad at family members and began shooting his AR style rifle out of his residence window in the direction of three people outside in the yard.

Deputies determined that seventeen rifle rounds had been fired. In addition, officers report that the suspect was under the influence of alcoholic beverages. Williams was charged with 17 counts of Wanton Endangerment – first-degree and was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
