Preseason hype is enough to get fans of any sports team excited, but once the ball is tipped, all of that goes out the window for 40 minutes of play.
With EKU, dubbed the Most Exciting 40 Minutes in Sports, fans already expect a fast and high scoring team. This year expectations are much higher though, as the Colonels who are led by head coach AW Hamilton are favorites to win the ASUN conference and also go to the NCAA tournament.
These are expectations not yet seen at Eastern surrounding the mens basketball team. It has been a grind to get to this level though, as coach Hamilton has recruited and maintained many great players before landing this superstar team.
The current roster has everything an Eastern fan wants in a team, from local players like Michael Moreno and Isaiah Cozart, to high level recruits like Tayshawn Comer and Leland Walker, and even guys who have developed leaps and bounds like Devontae Blanton.
With the first game coming this evening, EKU now has to show the college basketball world that they are a legit mid-major contender not only in the ASUN, but also for a potential NCAA march madness run.
EKU begins their special season against West Virginia Tech tonight at 7.
