According to the Richmond Police Department, a new scam is making the rounds that involves scam phone calls of supposed utility workers claiming to be with Kentucky Utilities.
According to Police, the scamsters even set up a fake call center number to make people believe they are really with KU. Do not fall for the scam. The caller will say “KU will be out in the area within 20 minutes to disconnect your service if payment is not made.” The person at the other end will continue to threaten service disconnection. They then transfer the money into their own account if you pay. KU will never call you so please hang up if you get a call from these scammers.
KU is aware of the fake scam and is making customers aware. This scam is so prevalent it has prompted LG&E and KU to remind customers that they will never call and ask for credit or debit card numbers or other personal information regarding payments.
