Following an investigation, Richmond Police have arrested a woman in connection to an attempted robbery which took place in May.
On the evening of May 23rd, Richmond Police responded to a call regarding a burglary with shots fired on Foxhaven Drive. Upon speaking with witnesses and the victim of the assault, officers learned that a man and a woman, later identified as Ariana Meriwether of Richmond, allegedly forced their way into a residence there and began demanding money from someone inside the home.
According to an arrest citation, Meriwether began assaulting a resident of the home, repeatedly punching them and causing severe bruising to their head and neck. Another resident was reportedly held at gunpoint by the male suspect, and repeatedly hit with the handgun in another part of the home.
Police say the residents were able to convince Meriwether and the male suspect to let them go to their car to retrieve the money being demanded from them. Once outside, one of the residents began fleeing from the suspects, resulting in the male firing several shots. One of the victims of the assault was struck in the arm, causing a non-life threatening injury. After this, Meriwether and the male suspect fled the scene in their car.
Police would locate a cell phone belonging to Meriwether inside the residence, which was left behind during the assault. After identifying Meriwether as the owner of the phone, investigators spoke with her mother regarding her whereabouts. According to police, the mother gave conflicting reports of how frequently she saw Meriwether. When officers began to file the search warrant for the residence nearby, Meriwether exited her mother’s home and turned herself in.
Meriwether was placed under arrest and was charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery, 1st degree burglary, 2nd degree assault, and kidnapping. She was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
