Richmond Jiu Jitsu team brings home 21 gold medals from Fuji BJJ Tournament in Lexington

Fuji BJJ, the highly anticipated annual jiu jitsu event, made its grand return to Lexington, KY, leaving participants and spectators in awe of the exceptional talent displayed on the mats. The tournament, held once a year, attracted jiu jitsu enthusiasts from across the region, featuring intense matches and remarkable achievements by the competitors.

The 10th Planet Richmond team, returned to action to demonstrate their skill and determination throughout the event. The team, consisting of 27 dedicated athletes both youth and adult, showcased their exceptional talent, earning an astonishing 21 gold medals in various divisions.

In addition to their remarkable gold medal haul, the 10th Planet Richmond youth team secured an impressive 2nd place finish in the overall team standings. This achievement speaks volumes about the dedication, hard work, and camaraderie among the young athletes who tirelessly trained for this prestigious event.

One standout competitor who stole the spotlight was Natilee Wells, a remarkable 12-year-old 8th-grade student from Madison Middle School. Natilee earned gold in her youth divisions. Despite her age, Natilee fearlessly entered the adult intermediate division as well, where she triumphed with an outstanding display of skill and determination. Not only did she secure a gold medal, but she also impressed everyone with her technical prowess, winning her first adult match with a submission rear naked choke and her second match by a decisive 4-0 score.

Another remarkable accomplishment came from Carter Swords, whose exceptional performance earned him the coveted top point score for the entire event. In a single match, Carter displayed unmatched dominance, scoring an incredible 43 points, securing his place at the number one spot.

Notable achievements were also attained in the category of fastest submissions. Vitoria Lopes showcased incredible speed and technique, earning the number 4 and 5 spots for fastest submissions in the youth division.

The adults’ division also witnessed exceptional submissions, with Justin Johnson securing the 2nd fastest submission. Brittani Branstutter and Ruben Jasinaki also showcased their technical prowess, earning the 3rd and 10th spots for fastest submissions, respectively.
