Richmond Farm Not Selling Christmas Trees This Holiday Season

In Madison County, going to Baldwin Farms and picking that perfect tree has been a tradition for many families in the area. But, now for the first time in 30 years, Baldwin Farm will not be open this holiday season.

Owner Margery Baldwin says the unusually dry weather is to blame. She says the long, hot summer and the drought resulted in the death of a large portion of her tree inventory.

Baldwin adds that she was not able to obtain trees from North Carolina, trees that she normally sells to supplement the trees grown on her farm.

Normally the farm sells about 700 trees, but this year, only around 50 were available for sale. Baldwin, who has seen three generations of families return to the farm for their perfect tree, says she is hopeful to re-open next year.

Baldwin has diverted the remaining inventory of her trees to Silver Cliff Landscaping. She says that the landscaping service, located on Barnes Mill Road in Richmond, is providing a good experience for people who still want to celebrate Christmas in a “real tree kind of way”.
