After many months, much debate and controversy, it looks now like a proposed regional business park may be dead in the water.
The Georgetown City Council voted 6-2 Monday night against the proposed inter-local agreement creating an authority to oversee a three-county business park on 500-acres in Scott County.
The proposed agreement for an industrial park included the Lexington-Fayette County Government, Madison and Scott counties, as well as the cities of Georgetown, Berea and Richmond. With hundreds of thousands of dollars proposed to be furnished by the cities of Richmond, Berea, and Madison County.
Several Georgetown council members said the only people who they felt really supported the new park idea were the people directly involved to profit, like economic developers or real estate agents.
The Georgetown Councils vote comes on the heels of the Richmond City Commissions, who also voted the proposal down at their most recent meeting last week.
This overwhelming vote against the project by Georgetown is seen as a huge setback for the proposal, that many argued would benefit Scott County the most.
