An ordinance establishing an Entertainment destination center in the downtown area of Richmond is set to be approved tonight by the City Commission tonight in their bi-weekly meeting.
The Ordinance will authorize the issuance of an entertainment destination center or EDC. The thought is that this will aid in economic growth of tourism in the city and capitalize on the revitalization taking place in downtown Richmond. The Entertainment district boundary will consists of the majority of downtown including a large portion of Main Street and some of the surrounding and adjacent streets including from the north extending past Irvine street and follows parts of North Collins, North First Street and North Second Street. From the east side, the boundary will extend down North and South Collins and parts of South Madison Avenue and University Drive. It’ll also run along parts of Water street and Crabbe street, Lancaster avenue and Church street.
This ordinance will prohibit patrons from taking alcoholic beverages outside the physical boundaries of the EDC and will require any drinks that are removed from the licensed premises for consumption within the EDC shall be in cups approved by the city, meaning you can purchase a drink at one of the approved bars/restaurants and take it to another approved location within the district as long as that drink is in the approve cup.
