A Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested a Berea man early Monday morning after he allegedly provided false identifying information.
According to an arrest citation, the officer observed an illegal burn operation on Big Hill Road which was reportedly being conducted by Tommy Eaton. When questioned about his identity, police say Eaton couldn’t clearly state his social security number and provided his brother’s name instead of his own.
The officer had spoken with Eaton’s brother the week prior to this incident, which prompted them to contact his place of residence. According to the officer, they were told that Eaton’s brother was present inside the residence and not on Big Hill Road.
After being confronted about this, Eaton continued to identify himself as his brother and requested to be transported to his brother’s residence in order to prove that he was telling the truth. While driving to the residence, Eaton allegedly requested to enter the residence before the officer to bring someone out to verify that he was providing accurate identifying information. When he was told that he would not be allowed to do as such, police say Eaton finally gave the officer his actual name.
When police searched Eaton in their records, they discovered that he had a Failure to Appear charge in addition to a complaint warrant where it was alleged that he used his brother’s identifying information previously to avoid shoplifting charges in 2024.
Eaton was transported to the Madison County Detention Center where he was charged with Theft of Identity and Giving an Officer False Identifying Information.
