Madison Southern with a comeback win
Coming into tonight’s game the Eagles of Madison Southern (10-11) were coming off a two game losing streak. Last night they lost to Somerset, 73-61, a team that won the 12th region All A title. They had to turn back around and play a hot team in East Jessamine (10-15) winners of 5 of their last 6.
Southern started the game scoring the first basket of the game and hit three three pointers in the first quarter. Southern led 11-10 but the Jaguars went on 13-0 run to take a 23-13 lead a one quarter. East Jess knocked down 5 three pointers. We had 3 ties and 6 lead changes in that quarter. The second quarter East Jess scored the first 4 points and pushed the lead out to 28-13. The Eagles scored the final 10 points of the half to cut the lead to 32-27.
The second half started with the Jaguars scoring the first 4 points of the half making it 36-27. Back and forth in the third period and a 7 point lead after 3 for East Jessamine. The 4th started with a three pointer for the Eagles cutting the lead down to 4 points. Another 3 pointer cut the lead to 51-47 but East answered back with a 3 pointer of their own to get it back to a 7 point lead. Things were looking bleak with time running out on the home team and down 58-52 and behind the play of Trent Moberly off the bench Southern goes on an 11-0 run to pull ahead and comeback for an exciting win 63-58. 4 three pointers in the final quarter helped the Eagles outscore East Jessamine 23-11 in the 4th. Southern was led by Trent Moberly 17 points, 13 in the 2nd half, Chad Fugate 12 points, Tre McCreath 12 points, all from behind the arc, Shawn Short 11 points, Landon Stacy 8 points, and Hunter Buchanan 3 points. Southern will go on the road Friday night as they go to Clinton County to play. They have one home game left, February 16, as they will host Frankfort on their senior night.
