Wednesday night number three ranked Madison Central (17-2) traveled to Louisville to play top ranked PRP and then had to come back the next night and play another top ten team in Henry Clay.
Madison Central sent lefty Lucas Myers to the mound to face the Blue Devils. First batter of the game, D. Wilson-Cowan sent a flyball out to center field where Trey Eden was unable to come up with it and he stood on second base. Myers was ableto get a fly out and then struck out the final two hitters to leave Cowan stranded. Henry Clay (11-6) sent Sean Gibbons (3-1) to he hill to face the Indians. He walks the lead off man, Trey Eden, and he advanced to second base but he was stranded as well. For three innings this was a classic pitchers dual with neither team able to get any offense going.
In the visitors half of the fourth the Blue Devil third baseman Luc Morgan led off with a double. That was the first hit allowed by Myers. Myers moved from second to third on an aggressive base running by Morgan. Shortstop Louie Kissenger with an RBI single to plate the game’s first run. Bottom of the fourth Logan Thomason doubled to begin the inning, advanced to third on an error when the pitcher threw it away trying to pick him off. He then scored on a two out single from Jeremy Cox to tie the game. Cox stole second base, moved to third on an error and scored on another two out single, this time from Scott Simmons to give the Indians the lead at 2-1. Bottom of the fifth Indians added three more runs to their lead when Eden singled to begin the frame, stole second, and moved to third on yet another Henry Clay error. An intentional walk to Thomason loads the bases and Gibbons then walks Bryce Travis forcing home a run. Jeremy Cox followed that up with a two run single and the Indians were cruising 5-1. Henry Clay wouldn’t go away quietly as Will Newberry led off with a double in the sixth inning and a walk to Morgan. Myers was pulled after going five innings allowing three hits, three runs, walking one and striking out seven. A ground ball to Travis down to third on what looked like a sure fired double play ended up as an error when Travis’s throw pulled the second baseman off the bag and no outs were recorded. Henry Mitcham singled home a run and a ground out scored another run as Henry Clay pulled within two runs 5-3. Bottom of the sixth Gibbons was pulled after going five innings allowing six hits, five runs four of them earned, walking two and striking out eight. Matt Mills came in and walked the leadoff man, Jacob Ferris came on as a pinch runner. Ferris quickly swiped second and third base and scored on a wild pitch. Mills would walk the three batters he faced with two of them coming around to score. Thomason drove in the final run of the night with a ground out. Cameron Travis came in relief of Myers striking out four of the six hitters he faced. Jeremy Cox led the offensive attack with two hits and two RBI, Scott Simmons with two hits and two stolen bases.
The Indians are now home for ten straight games. Friday night they host Johnson Central in the opening game of the Tomahawk Classic.
