The Madison Central Lady Indians won the 7th region golf tournament held in Richmond over Lexington Christian Academy by three strokes, 323 to 326. In region play Junior Mattie Neeley shot a 77 to lead the Indians. She finished tied for third in region play. Senior Mackenzie Neal shot a 78, eighth grader Elizabeth Eberle fired an 87 and Sophomore Katherine Taylor shot an 89.
In the state tournament Mackenzie Neal was tied for the lead entering the final round and she finished third individually after shooting a +11 today and finishing with a total of 155. Mattie Neeley finished 8th after firing a +12 and a total of 156. All five of the Lady Indian golfers made the cut and played in the final round. Raegan Clark finished tied for 45th overall, Elizabeth Eberle tied for 66th, and Katherine Taylor was 71st overall.
The Lady Indians won the 2015 State Championship and this year the team finished third overall. Lexington Christian won the tournament shooting a +63 for a total of 639. Central shot a +96 over the tournament for a total of 672. Both teams in the 7th region finished in the top three of the State Tournament showing how strong the golf teams are in the region. Central graduates only one golfer and should be primed for another run next season.
