Laurel Co. Sheriff’s Office: Convicted Felon Threatens Woman with Axe

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Tom Cat Trail in response to a reportedly “out of control” male subject in the area late Tuesday evening.

Authorities learned that a female subject and a 10 year-old child had fled from the man, later identified as 52 year-old Donald Elkins, into a nearby wooded area. It was alleged that Elkins had threatened to break into the home of the female subject with the axe prior to police arrival.

Following an investigation, police say they discovered that Elkins was additionally in possession of a shotgun and that he was a convicted felon. According to authorities, Elkins had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office charged Elkins with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. In addition, Elkins was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest regarding child support and lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
