Emergency officials are still clearing the area following a fiery Tuesday morning vehicle collision on U.S. 27 in Lancaster. The crash reportedly occurred around 6:30 this morning.
Lancaster Police Chief Rodney Kidd says that several witnesses claimed that a car appeared to be traveling southbound at a rate exceeding the speed limit before losing control and striking two other vehicles on the northbound side of the road. The southbound vehicle then began burning.
The driver of the southbound car was removed from his vehicle and transported to UK Medical Center for treatment of critical injuries. Drivers in the other two vehicles were taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Kidd says he expects traffic to be affected in the area for another two to three hours. Southbound traffic heading into Lancaster is being diverted onto Boone’s Creek Road on U.S. 27 South, and northbound traffic on Lexington Road is being rerouted to the East and West to Danville and Richmond.
