Lady Eagles fall on buzzer beater to Lee County
On a cold night in Berea the Lady Eagles started the night off hot from the field with Samantha Cornelison knocking down a three pointer to start the game. Eagles raced out to an 11-3 lead before the Lady Bobcats knocked down a couple of three pointers of their own to cut the lead down to two points. Eagles end the quarter on an 8-0 run to push the lead out to 9 points 22-13. The second quarter the Eagles were as cold from the field as the temperature was outside, Lee County went on a 13-0 run to take a 26-22 lead. Lee County outscored the Eagles 24-6 in the second frame. Eagles were down 37-28 at half. In a third quarter that only saw 15 points scored combined, Eagles scored the first 9 points to tie the game at 37. Lee County finally scores with two minutes left in the third and score the final six points to lead 43-3 after three quarters. Back and forth fourth quarter saw Madison Southern go on a 7-2 run to get within a point but the Bobcats score to take a three point lead but a basket and foul ties the game at 47. Final minute Lady Eagles knock down a couple of free throws to take a 52-51 lead but Hannah Kash puts in a buzzer beater to win the game 53-52 as time expires. Leading the way for the Lady Eagles tonight was Aleigh Richardson with 23 points and 8 rebounds on her 16th birthday, Happy Birthday to her from WBONTVSPORTS!, Samantha Cornelison with 13 points and 3 steals, Sunni Walters with 4 points and 3 assists, Skylar Sparks 4 points and 4 rebounds, Anna King with 1 point.
Tough loss for the home team but they are back in action Friday night at 6 as they face Carroll County and Saturday at 12:30 as they finish the Lady Eagles Classic against North Laurel.
