Indians Top Generals In Home Opener
Madison Central opened their home schedule last night, as of now they only have 8 home games, against region rival Lafayette. This game was a great early opportunity to see where they stand in the region.
The game started with the Indians getting out to a four point lead before the Generals scored, Dustin Geralds scored 10 consecutive points to help the home team push out to a 21-6 lead after a quarter. The second quarter started with Lafayette scoring the six points until Geralds knocked down a couple of free throws to make the score 23-12. Lafayette uses a 21-12 second quarter to cut the lead down to six at halftime, 33-27. Geralds led all scorers with 16 points at half. Indians shot 13-31 from the floor for 42%, had 10 turnovers in first half most of which came in second quarter which allowed the Generals to get back in the game.
The second half started with a three pointer from Geralds. Lafayette was able to keep the game close by knocking down three three pointers. Isiah Cozart was a beast in the paint, every time a General tried to score down low he rejected their shots. He ended the night with ten blocked shots.
The third quarter was pretty even with the Indians outscoring the Generals 16-13. The fourth quarter got tight as midway through Lafayette was able to cut the lead down to 6, 56-50 until Quaezhan Charlton knocked down a three pointer to put the lead back to nine points. The final from Madison Central in an exciting game Madison Central (2-0) over Lafayette (1-1) 63-57.
For the second straight game Dustin Geralds leads the way with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Isiah Cozart finished the night one point shy of a triple double with 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots. Isiah Minter chips in 11 points, Kenyon McKee with 10 points, Quaezhan Charlton 4 points, Tyler Crafton 3 points, Jacori Miller 2 points. Lafayette led by big man Ray Surratt with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
Madison Central returns to action Saturday at Madison Southern in the Minuteman Press classic vs Frankfort at 5, then return home against Clark County on Tuesday December 5th. The Cardinals are preseason number 10 in the state.
