Madison Central (16-5) last home game before this week was last year, December 12th to be exact. They returned home for game last night versus Montgomery County, a win 85-41 and again tonight in a WBONTV game of the week that was a makeup from earlier in the season. West Jessamine (11-6) came into tonight’s game with a 4 game slide. The Colts started the season 11-1, their only loss at Mercer County the top team in the 12th region, since then they’ve had a hard time on the hardwood.
Madison Central scored the first basket and took an 11-4 lead midway through the opening quarter. West Jess knocked down a trey to end the first frame and pull within 17-13. It was evident that the game plan was to try and get the Indians to play their style, up and down the court looking for transition baskets. When forced into a half court offense the Colts couldn’t get much going. Second quarter Indians scored the first 7 points and looked as though they would take a 10 point lead into halftime but as the first half buzzer sounded a foul was called a three shot and West Jessamine had a chance to pull within 7 if they knocked down the free throws. Dalton Bruner, averaging 19 points a game, was the shooter but went 1 of 3 at the line to cut the lead down to 31-22. In that opening half Central held the Colts to 9-30 (30%) from the floor, they forced them into 11 turnovers and held the their leading scorer Bruner to just that free throw at the end of the half. For the Indians Isaiah Minter had 11 points, Dustin Geralds with 7 points and 7 rebounds, Isaiah Cozart with 8 points 6 rebounds and 6 blocks. During the halftime show on WBONTV.com head coach Allen Feldhaus was not pleased with the way his team was allowing the Colts to dictate the style of play and said his team needed to find a way to get the ball to Cozart more in the second half.
In the second half it started quick with both teams finding the hoop early and often. They traded baskets until the Indians went on a 10-0 run to push the lead out 19 at 45-26. After three quarters Central was up 21, 61-40. Indians end up rolling to a victory by the final of 80-56. Central was paced by big man Isiah Cozart who has another triple double on the season, 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots. Dustin Geralds with another big night as well, 19 points and 13 rebounds. Isiah Minter with a solid night from the point guard position, 17 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Kenyon McKee with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Quae Charlton with 4 points and 4 rebounds off the bench, Scott Quaid with 3 points, Tyler Crafton with 3 points, and Jacori Miller with 2 points.
