Coming into Friday night’s matchup with #2 Trinity the Indians (16-5) were looking for that one win that would make the 11th region and the state take notice. They had that chance tonight at home. Trinity (19-2) led by the one of the top players in the state and a top 50 player in the nation David Johnson (15ppg) brought an 11 game winning streak into the game.
Central started the game with the first four points and pushed out to a 9-4 lead early. The Shamrocks fought back and took the lead on 6-0 run with 2 minutes left by a point at 10-9. After a quarter the Indians were up 13-12. Big man Isiah Cozart led Central with 4 points and 5 rebounds after the quarter. Second quarter both teams played even with Trinity taking a one point lead at half 25-24. At halftime head coach Allen Feldhaus was upset with the number of trips to the free throw line for Trinty. They were 10-12 in the opening half. At the half Cozart had 8 points 8 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Jacori Miller with 7 points. Jay SCrubb led the Rocks with 11 points, Johnson was held to 9 points on 3-10 shooting.
The second half David Johnson led it off with a three pointer to extend the lead to four but Miller answered back with his own three pointer. Indians use a 7-0 run to take 31-28 lead. Trinty answered backs with a trey and after 3 quarters we are tied at 37. Dustin Geralds with 6 points in the third frame. In the 4th quarter Trinity had a chance to tie the game but instead the guard drove to the basket for a layup cutting the lead to 53-52 but with no timeouts and under 5 seconds left the Indians didn’t have to inbound and they hold on for the thrilling win at home. Dustin Gerald finishes with 16 points and 6 rebounds, Cozart with another solid night 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots. Isiah Minter 12 points and 7 rebounds. Jacori Miller 10 points, Quae Charlton 2 points, Kenyon McKee 4 points. For Trinity Scrubb finished with a game high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Johnson had 17 points and 6 rebounds. Indians return to action Tuesday night January 30th at Henry Clay.
