Details of a report from the Brindle Ridge Fire Department say units were dispatched to a report of smoke in the Wildie/Scaffold Cane area Wednesday night around 9:30. Fire units searched several areas before eventually being alerted to the location of the fire near Eversole Lane off of Wildie. On scene units located a large wooded area on fire and a pickup truck that was on fire. The pickup was extinguished quickly and responders began containment operations on the wildland fire. Extremely thick brush and very high winds made typical fire operations difficult and dangerous, but firefighters were able to keep the fire spread slowed till the rain arrived.
In total, approximately 16.5 acres burned. About 3.5 hours after the initial dispatch a Kentucky Division of Forestry crew arrived along with a dozer. Fire units remained on scene and assisted KDF with containment for another 1.5 hours at which point the rain drastically slowed fire spread. At that point local fire units cleared scene. KDF remained on scene. Engine 81, Brush Truck 80, and 6 Firefighters responded. Climax Volunteer Fire Department also responded to assist.
