An intersection in Madison County that was the site of two fatal crashes in 2025 has now recorded its first deadly accident of the new year.
A two-vehicle collision occurred Wednesday, February 25, near the traffic signal at the busy entrance to Buc-ee’s in Richmond, just off Exit 83 around 12:30 p.m.
Authorities say one of the vehicles involved overturned as a result of the crash. A mother and her four children were inside that vehicle at the time of the collision.
The children were transported to UK Medical Center for treatment and further evaluation of injuries.
The driver of the overturned vehicle, 51-year-old Katee Chimpoutas of Michigan, was pronounced deceased shortly after 1:00 p.m. at Baptist Health Richmond.
The crash remains under investigation.
