On a hot afternoon in Owensboro, so hot that the afternoon games were being delayed due to heat index, Estill County ran into a Boyle County team that was just as hot. Specifically a hot pitcher in Kelly Lay.
The game started with a lead off hit from Lindsay Wood but she would be stranded at second base. Bottom of the first Boyle County got a base hit but Kaylee Covey struck out the final two batters to end the frame. Bottom of the second Kelly Lay reached on an error and advanced to second on a passed ball but once again Covey worked out of the jam.
Estill played with fire once too often when in the home half of the third Madison Robbins got her second hit. She stole second base and a two out walk to Katy Grace Chadwell put two on with two outs. Keely Bowling followed that up with an RBI single to make it 1-0. After another base hit that loaded the bases Covey walked Lay to score a run and Boyle led 2-0 after three innings. In the bottom of the fourth the Lady Rebels broke the game open when Emily Glasscock led off with a double. Izzy Gervacio followed with a single and Robbins with her third hit drove home another run to make it 3-0. Channing Whitehouse with a two run double made it 5-0 after four innings. Boyle County would add four more runs and behind the solid pitching of Lay, six innings, no runs, six strikeouts, to win 9-0.
For Estill County Covey went the distance on the mound. She allowed sixteen hits, nine runs all of which were earned while striking out four. Sarah Wiseman had a pair of hits to lead the offense. Lindsey Wood with a single, Kaylee Riddel with a single, and Taylor Duechle with a base hit.
Estill County now goes to the constellation bracket and will face Apollo (21-10) at 11 AM Friday morning
