| Auditor Mike Harmon is seeking re-election for tomorrow’s 2019 elections. Harmon came into WBONtv’s studios to talk about his campaign to maintain his seat as Auditor of Public Accounts for the Commonwealth. Harmon was first elected in November 2015 as the 47th Auditor for Kentucky. Prior to being elected as Auditor, Harmon served in the Kentucky House of Representatives for 13 years in the Kentucky General Assembly representing the people of Boyle and Casey County. Harmon said that he had ran for office before and lost, but was looking for another statewide position and prayed before taking the plunge to run for statewide Auditor last election. |
Auditor Harmon says that one of his main goals is the desire to make government more transparent, in his role as Auditor. Harmon tells Marisa Hempel that his office seeks to make sure that all 120 County Governments in Kentucky as well as local governments are as efficient and ethical as possible.
Harmon elaborates that there is still a lot of work in his office that he plans to continue, but that there are some definite triumphs such as unearthing corruption and turning cases over the to the FBI.
He adds that his office conducts about 600 audits a year, a lot of which he is proud that have made big headlines across the state.
Harmon continues that he learned the value of hard work and responsibility through his experience in business, particularly insurance and banking. He also previously served as Vice Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Tourism and Energy, and also was a member of the committees for Banking and Insurance; Elections, Constitutional Amendments, and Intergovernmental Affairs; Health and Welfare; and Tourism Development and Energy during the regular and interim sessions of the Kentucky General Assembly.
Mike is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with degrees in math, statistics, and theater, and was valedictorian of his Boyle County High School class.
