Several athletic teams from Berea College are foregoing their traditional Christmas parties this year in an effort to give back to the community. Partnering with the Family Resource Center at Kingston Elementary School, the Berea College Softball team, volleyball team, and women’s soccer team have all decided to sponsor a child in need this Christmas season.
Instead of exchanging gifts with teammates, they have all pitched in to make Christmas special for children that may otherwise may not have a lot of gifts to open. When talking about this project, several players noted growing up in similar situations and how thankful they always were to receive gifts. They also credited Berea College, their athletics department, and their coaches for creating a culture where family and giving are always priorities.
