For many, the holiday season is a time of joy and and goodwill and the Battle of Richmond Association is aiming to give both to those who might not be able to go home for the holidays.
WBON-TV’s Samantha Burford stopped by the Battle of Richmond Visitor’s Center to talk with curator Phillip Seyfrit about an initiative that he hopes will provide valuable items to two different groups of people.
BORA is recognizing those who are serving in our military by collecting donated Christmas cards and sending them to active servicemen and women all over the world.
For this process, known as “Operation Stars and Stripes”, BORA asks Madison County residents to purchase Christmas cards and write messages for service members. These cards will then get sent to an organization who arranges care packages for members of the military. The deadline to provide a card is November 26th.
That’s not all Battle of Richmond organizers are doing this season, though. They are also overseeing a special event which will provide area citizens a chance to interact with Santa Claus himself! The event will take place on November 24th at the Richmond Battlefield park from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Parents can also bring their children and get a photo taken with old Saint Nick. It’s all free, and BORA only asks that attendees bring new prepackaged socks to donate to the Richmond Salvation Army.
