Richmond Police Wednesday arrested a soldier stationed at the National Guard Armory in Richmond in reference to an alleged sexual assault. According to the citation, RPD arrived at the Armory on Robert Hacker Way after receiving a phone call from a soldier that the suspect, Darren Wayne Turner, allegedly had “touched the privates” of another soldier without consent a few days prior, on the 10th.
Police detail that they called Turner, who stated that he and other soldiers “hung out” into the wee hours of the morning, until the female soldiers fell asleep in the “vault” of the armory while he went to sleep in the office of the armory.
The citation continues that Turner admitted to going into the vault while the women were asleep, but claims he did not sexually assault them.
Another witness spoke to police and said that she and the victim witnessed Turner acting strangely, saying that he seemed very intoxicated.
Police continue that the victim told the witness and investigators that she woke up with Turner having his hands down her pants. She added that she told him to stop, and he left the vault. The victim described to police the sexual nature of the things Turner said to her that night after they had all had drinks.
Turner was arrested and initially lodged in the Madison County Detention Center on charges of 1st Degree Sexual Abuse.
However, according to officials, Turner was released and the case seems to have been dismissed by the Madison County District Court, presumably as the Military may take on the case as it occurred at the Armory between soldiers.
**Update: Officials report that this was a violation of federal law therefore District Court had to hand the case off.
