The Democratic candidate for County Judge that was set to run against current Judge/Executive Reagan Taylor has announced that he will not be seeking to run for the November election. Aubrey Maffett will no longer appear on the ballot, as he withdrew his candidacy before the ballot certifications.
Incumbent Judge Taylor will now run unopposed, unless a write-in candidate steps up to the plate. The County Clerk’s office reports that write in candidates must register before October 26th.
Aubrey Maffett spoke to WBONTV and says it comes down to money running a campaign, and that he agrees with Judge Taylor, who would have been his opponent, on the healing center and jail expansion projects. He says he wishes to step aside and allow Judge Taylor to continue his hard work on attempting to quell the drug epidemic.
