The Estill County jail has been closed since March 31st after the state came by for an inspection and found faulty sprinkler and fire detection systems. After speaking with Jailer Bo Morris, Marisa Hempel went to Judge Executive Wallace Taylor for his take on the jail issue, and why he agreed that the jail would never reopen. Unless a larger facility is built, Taylor said the old jail will be repurposed for office space. Contracts with Powell County in order to ship and house inmates in their facility are in the works, and the purchase of a 13 person transport van has been finalized by Estill Fiscal Court.
