During Tuesday night’s city council meeting the week of April 29th to May 5th. The proclamation was made to show thanks to the small businesses of Berea that provide jobs to residents and increase tourism. Mayor Steve Connelly said that the small businesses’ contributions to the city are significant and often under appreciated.
There was also bid openings for the repair of B-Lake Principal Spillway. Four bids have been made and they are Sturgeon Creek Construction from Mt. Sterlin with a bid of $199,710. Todd Johnson Construction from Danville with a bid of $210,748.89. Ford Contracting from Lancaster with a bid of $132,000. and JV LLC from Lexington with a bid of $173,500.
The new parking ordinance was also approved and is officially in effect. The ordinance has been in unofficial use for two years and was created due to safety issues with parking on narrow streets. The ordinance will not remove any parking places in Berea besides one spot in a residential area that was requested by people living there.
Berea will also be selling several city vehicles that have been determined to old to be used. They include several utility vehicles, trucks, cars, and a tractor.
The new budget standards for Berea have been approved and it is the first time that Berea has had a system like this put in place.
The budget for the fiscal of year of 2017 to 2018 was not voted on and has been moved to the next council meeting. This was made at the request of Councilor Jim Davis who stated that new expenditures have come up and will need to put into the budget. Councilor Randy Stone stated that this delay will not affect day to day operations of the city.
