When opportunity presents itself, seize it. That’s exactly what the Madison Christian Academy (MCA) Knights did this past Saturday.
The Knights had the opportunity to compete on NBA hardwood at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the Indiana Pacers. The arena has been the stage for basketball legends like Reggie Miller and current NBA star Tyrese Haliburton.
For the Knights, stepping onto the same floor where some of basketball’s greatest players have competed was a special opportunity. MCA faced Belmont Christian Academy of Morgantown, Kentucky, in a matchup that would prove memorable for everyone involved.
The Knights made the most of their opportunity, defeating the Hawks by a score of 67 to 33. Three players led the way offensively, scoring in double figures. Freshman Luke Storie paced the Knights with 12 points, while Caeden Brothers and Chris Middleton added 11 points apiece.
However, the final score was not the most important part of the day. The real victory was the opportunity for every player to experience competing in an NBA arena, a once in a lifetime memory for these young athletes.
That focus on the entire team was evident throughout the game. One quarter was designated specifically for reserve players, ensuring they had an opportunity to take the court and experience the moment. Of the Knights’ 12 players, 10 found their way into the scoring column, and all 12 saw playing time.
For the MCA Knights, Saturday was about more than basketball. It was about seizing an opportunity, embracing the moment, and enjoying a dream come true on the hardwood of the Indiana Pacers.
