Zoning Changes Cause Controversy During Richmond City Commission Meeting

The city of Richmond had its first reading on zone changes to change some streets from family to business class lots.  Two citizens of these streets felt that allowing large buildings or apartment complexes would cause several problems.  The main one being that there would cause a large increase of traffic in the already congested areas as well as even more difficulty in finding parking.  They also thought laying foundations for larger parking spots would cause the streets to flood during heavy rains.

Commissioner Jason Morgan thought that the ordinance to change the zones should be reexamined  to possibly prevent large business to move in. The concerned citizens stated that they had no problem with small businesses being built on the lots but felt that large apartment complexes or factories might be built on the lots instead.

The city will also be hiring a new police officer.  The candidate will be hired after he finishes his training at the academy.
