A local Madison County Schools teacher has published her first children’s book. Kristie Turner, a reading interventionist at Waco Elementary, recently released the heartfelt story inspired by her experiences in the classroom.
Turner said the inspiration came while reflecting on the work she and her colleagues do every day. “As I searched through books, poems, and quotes, I couldn’t find the words to truly express the love I see teachers pour into their students each day,” she shared.
Her realistic fiction story follows the journey of a withdrawn student and his teacher. Through patience, consistency, and genuine care, the teacher helps the child rediscover joy. The book delivers a powerful message, that sometimes the safest and most nurturing place a child can find is in the heart of a teacher.
“I hope the message in the book reminds you of the power a teacher has to change a child’s life. And if you’re not a teacher, I hope it makes you think of the one who left an imprint on your heart,” Turner said.
