Waco Elementary Student Wins “Be a Children’s Champion” Art Contest

A Waco Elementary student is being recognized for both her creativity and her positive spirit after winning the Be a Children’s Champion” art contest. This initiative highlights the community’s commitment to nurturing and supporting its youngest residents.  Fourth-grade student Leighton Foley earned the top honor this year with her imaginative design and slogan, Be over the moon kind.”

For Leighton, the idea came naturally. Her mother, Jasmine Foley, explained that her daughter, “has always had a fascination with astronauts and outer space.”

Leighton said the inspiration for her artwork was simple. “I really just wanted to draw an astronaut on the moon,” she said.

Leighton’s win is especially meaningful because of her persistence. She has entered the contest every year since she first began school at Waco Elementary in kindergarten, showing both dedication and enthusiasm for the message behind the competition.

Teachers and staff say Leighton is not only a talented artist but also a model student in the classroom. She is known for her kindness toward classmates and for setting a positive example for others, making her a wonderful representative of the values the contest hopes to promote.

Through her creativity and message of kindness, Leighton’s artwork reminds the community that even small acts of encouragement can make a big difference and sometimes kindness really can be over the moon.
