The commission has unanimously passed the budget for the 2019 fiscal year. The commission also passed an ordinance to increase retirement benefits for police and firefighters not covered by the County Employees Retirement System. The city will also be hiring five new firefighters and one new police officer.
The city will also be increasing security at Lake Reba Park after a citizen brought forth concerns during public comments. The citizen said that he witnessed a person performing lewd acts in sight of children. He also claimed that person he saw looked very similar to one of the people living in Richmond on the sex offender registry. The citizen also brought forth concerns over used needles and other drug paraphernalia he has found in the park. The mayor said that the city will be increasing police patrols in the area as well as seeing that the cameras in the park are functional
