This past weekend over 23,000 fans filed into Rupp Arena to see some of their favorite stars from shows such as Charmed, The Walking Dead, and Doctor Who and purchase some cool items.
For the eighth straight year Lexington hosted the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention and the attendance was down from last year due to ongoing construction at Rupp Arena but those who came were excited for the event.
One of the most popular autograph guests was Val Kilmer who starred as Batman in Batman Forever. Also among the most coveted autographs was Mark-Paul Gosselaar who played Zack Morris on the iconic series Saved By the Bell. It was Gosselaar first ever comic con appearance. Ryan Hurst, Beta of the Walking Dead, had a strong line all weekend. Holly Marie Combs, Charmed and Pretty Little Liars, various actors from the NBC sitcom The Office and Buffy the Vampire Slayer were big draws as well.
Among the opportunity to meet your favorite stars there were over 500 booths set up selling everything from comic books to vintage toys. Among the most popular items for sale were the Vinyl Pop figures and hard to find toys from many of the show goers childhood such as GI Joe and Batman figures.
One of the most anticipated part of the Comic Con is the many Cosplay players in attendance. Cosplay is where you dress as your favorite character from a TV show or movie. Some of the players say they spend all year getting ready for the 3 day event and can spend a few thousand dollars on their costumes.
If you didn’t make it to Lexington this year make plans to attend next year! Even if you are not a huge fan of science fiction movies and television shows there is something for everyone.
