Recent cases of vehicle break-ins led to the arrest of a Berea man.
Berea Police Department was dispatched to Boone Tavern in reference to a theft from a vehicle. A Dell laptop (valued at $2,300), hard drives and a notebook were reportedly stolen from the victim’s car while parked in town.
A few days later, police were dispatched to another vehicle break-in.
According to reports, the video showed a vehicle that matched the description from both crimes.
29-year-old Joseph Chestnut was identified as the alleged thief in both crimes. He was apprehended in his apartment. Police said that they located a backpack matching a description of the one stolen from Boone Tavern. Other things reportedly discovered in his bedroom was a diaper bag and a paper work from a child that were reported stolen.
Chestnut reportedly denied any knowledge of the thefts. He was charged with theft by unlawful taking ($500 or more but under $10,000) and theft by unlawful taking (under $500). Chestnut is currently lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
