WBON-TV sat down with Madison County Schools Superintendent, David Gilliam, to learn more about the plans for two new career centers to be built in Richmond and Berea.
The new career center to be built in Richmond will take the place of the existing Kentucky Tech Madison County Campus, which was built in 1968. The new center looks to provide updates on the programs taught there.
“We’re going to be able to bring in new equipment, and really expand those programs”, Gilliam says. “Careers have changed quite a bit since 1968.”
Another goal hoped to be achieved with the new buildings will be to provide people with valuable work skills, regardless of age. Gilliam states that the school board would like to consider using the centers for adult training and education as well as opportunities for middle-school students.
“Everyone realizes this need”, Gilliam says. “There is a need for a well-trained workforce.”
